Innovations are the only way to solve our climate crisis

Jobs

Our team is small yet passionate. We are committed to making an impact on the overall climate situation collectively. We bring together knowledge and experience from diverse fields to create innovative solutions: bioprocess, data, and machine engineers work alongside software developers and customer experience experts. To take the next step, perhaps you are the team player we are searching for! Please send your application to jobs@foom.de – we look forward to hearing from you!

Junior IoT Engineer

Work at the heart of our technology — the machines themselves. You'll split time between our R&D lab in Berlin and supporting first production deployments. Install and troubleshoot sensors, develop edge computing applications, build PLC programs, and help create the automation layer that makes our bioreactors smart. You'll bridge the gap between prototype and commercial systems.

- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, Computer Science, or similar — or equivalent practical experience

- Hands-on mentality: you like building, wiring, and debugging real things

- Self-driven learner comfortable growing into new areas

- Fluent in English (written and spoken)

- Located in or willing to relocate to Berlin

PLC programming (Siemens), Python on Linux, MQTT, Docker, industrial sensors, time-series databases. You don't need to know all of this — you'll learn with us.

Junior Data Engineer

We generate hundreds of thousands to millions of sensor readings daily. Your job: build the tools that help us make sense of it. Create dashboards and analysis tools for our bioprocess R&D team, develop predictive models for automation, and build reliable data pipelines from sensor streams to analytics. You enable domain experts — microbiologists and engineers — to do their best work.

- Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, or similar — or equivalent practical experience

- Analytical thinker who digs into data to find patterns and problems

- Detail-oriented: data quality and edge cases matter to you

- Fluent in English (written and spoken)

- Located in or willing to relocate to Berlin

Python (pandas, notebooks), SQL/PostgreSQL, Grafana, data pipelines (ETL/ELT), scikit-learn, AWS (S3, RDS), Docker. You don't need to know all of this — you'll learn with us.

Junior Full-Stack Engineer

Be the backbone of our cloud infrastructure and backend systems. Own the environment where everything runs — Kubernetes, data pipelines, message queues — and build the services that make our bioreactors manageable at scale. This is a backend-heavy role: alerting, monitoring, fleet management, APIs. Frontend work (internal tools, customer apps) is secondary but grows with you.

- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar — or equivalent practical experience

- Systems thinker who understands how pieces fit together

- Ownership mentality: if it's broken, you fix it

- Fluent in English (written and spoken)

- Located in or willing to relocate to Berlin

Python/FastAPI, AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ/MQTT, CI/CD (GitOps), Grafana/Prometheus, React/TypeScript. You don't need to know all of this — you'll learn with us.

Junior Process Engineer

Turn lab concepts into reliable, production-ready systems. Own the journey from commissioning protocols and pilot testing to deployment at our first customer sites. Work with engineering partners on commissioning and pilot runs, support on-site deployments, and take responsibility for continuous process optimisation. You connect lab-scale experimentation with commercial deployment and make scale-up work.

- Degree in Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biotechnology, Environmental Engineering, or similar

- Hands-on problem solver who thrives with physical systems

- Analytical and methodical: you apply engineering fundamentals and document thoroughly

- Fluent in German and English (written and spoken)

- Located in or willing to relocate to Berlin

P&IDs, equipment datasheets, mass/energy balances, FAT/SAT protocols, SOPs, process simulation tools, data-driven root cause analysis.

Engineering Internship

Join foom as a technical intern and work on real projects with real climate impact. We're a small, hands-on team — you'll get direct access to experienced engineers, responsibility from day one, and your work will ship. Choose from three focus areas.

Install sensors, develop edge applications, learn PLC basics. Split time between lab and production support.

Good fit: Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, Computer Science

Build dashboards, develop analysis tools, work on data pipelines. Turn sensor data into tools that help others.

Good fit: Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering

Own parts of our cloud environment, build APIs and backend services, work on deployment pipelines.

Good fit: Computer Science, Software Engineering

- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program (or recent graduate)

- Python programming skills

- Genuine interest in climate tech

- Hands-on mentality — you want to build, not just study

- Available for at least 3 months

- Fluent in English (written and spoken)

- Located in or willing to relocate to Berlin

About us

We are experienced founders with a passion. After more than a decade in e-commerce it was time for us to refocus our entrepreneurial energy. Not least our children give us food for thought again and again with their questions about the state of the planet. We believe in the power of innovation - and that only through innovation our climate problem can be solved. With our entrepreneurial strength, we want to make a contribution to this. Reducing the CO₂ footprint by focusing on resource-saving circular economy, by strengthening of local thinking and by enhancing the biodiversity of our lands - that is foom - circular on spot!

Dr. Anike von Gagern

After years of apprenticeship in a management consultancy, Anike founded and built up tausendkind together with Kathrin, a leading online shop in the DACH area for baby and children's supplies. An appreciative discussion culture and hard nuts motivate her, as do new ideas that inspire.

Anike is married and a mother of two children. She enjoys being out in nature with her family or baking a cake.

Dr. Kathrin Weiß

Kathrin's professional passion is innovation and entrepreneurship. Over the past 20 years, she has been involved with them at various levels: As a student and PhD student with a scientific lens, as a consultant at McKinsey with a focus on product development and for the World Economic Forum she has analyzed the emergence of innovation clusters. Together with Anike she founded and built tausendkind in 2010.

Kathrin is married and a mother of four children, and when she's not looking for the lost Pokémon card or making a princess crown, she loves to do sports.
