Mission

Keeping nutrients in the local loop

We believe organic waste is one of our most valuable local resources if recovered locally and with low emissions. Its nutrients should remain in circulation rather than being burned or landfilled.

Our mission is to build the infrastructure for local nutrient loops - helping businesses, cities and regions lower disposal costs, reduce emissions and strengthen resource resilience.

By combining microbiology, industrial engineering and AI-enabled process control into one integrated platform, we enable high-quality nutrient recovery directly where organic waste is generated in just two days.

We are building a future where valuable nutrients remain in local circulation, creating more resilient cities, healthier soils and a more sustainable food system.

Team

Meet the team

We are scientists, engineers and entrepreneurs. Problem solvers and storytellers. Curious minds and passionate doers. Diverse individuals, united by one mission: closing local nutrient loops - and excited to build the future of circularity together.

Wiebke Briede Wiebke Briede Biotechnology Engineer (Working Student)

Wiebke is a Biotechnology student at TU Berlin with a passion for hands-on experimentation and turning scientific ideas into real-world applications. She enjoys working with biological processes, running experiments and seeing how results from the lab translate into practice. At foom, she brings this curiosity to the R&D team, where her work includes outdoor trials testing foom fertiliser on plants in real garden conditions.

When she’s not studying or experimenting, you’ll most likely find Wiebke at a concert, enjoying live music and dancing.

Paolo Sechi Paolo Sechi CTO & Digital Technology Lead

Paolo's professional passion is building technology that works in the real world, and the teams that make it happen. Over more than 20 years, he has moved from writing code to leading engineering organisations, always keeping one foot in the hands-on work. As CTO of foom, he brings bioreactors, sensors and software together into one platform. His curiosity now centres on AI: using it, building with it and understanding what it means for a society moving ever faster towards the singularity.

When he's not coding or managing, you'll most likely find him on the beach near his home in Sardinia.
